So far on our meet the team behind Malamute Matters series we have introduced you to our Trustee Dawn Fido our financial controller Caryn Ellington, Auction/group manager Joanne Anderson and group manager Sally Elder. This week we feature the rescue arm of MM and would like to introduce you to Richard Horsfield.
Position at MM: Rescue Co-ordinator
Three things you would take with you on a desert Island : Rum. iPod/iPhone. Rum
If you weren’t doing MM what would you be doing instead? Well I’m a volunteer for Saints Sled Dog Rescue, which means Im involved with home checks, dog assessments, transport runs and fundraising so I’d probably be more involved with that I guess.
What is the toughest part of your job? Seeing the dogs who’s only fault is that they’ve been let down by a human at some point 😦
Do you have dogs yourself? Breed? Names? How many? I am owned by a 3 year old Alaskan Malamute called Khaos. I’ve had her since she was a puppy. Getting her was the reason I got involved. All dogs deserve a safe and happy life!
Where do see MM in the next 2 years? Bigger I guess, although from my job perspective I hope not busier! If we can reach a wider audience and engage more people I’d be happy with that. We’ve already done so much in a short space of time. Hopefully we can do more to help dogs in need.
When away from MM what do u do in you spare time? If any? I work offshore as a Diesel Engineer so I’m away a fair bit. When at home I love spending time with family and friends (2 and 4 legged) training Muay Thai and going to gigs. Oh and I may be training for another expedition 😉
What is the best part of your role at MM ? Knowing that I’ve helped even at least one dog. Hearing/seeing success stories is the best. Dogs like my first foster dog (SSDR ACE), and this week having been involved in 2 re-homes was pretty good. SSDR Peanut and SHARE Shadow. Both now in happy homes thanks to the rescues and the Malamute Matters Rescue Team 🙂
Favorite band? Slipknot Favorite actor ? all the women from game of thrones TV show? South Park.
Any human kids Yes. I have a daughter called Zoe who has just turned 9 years old (which makes me feel old 😦 lol) Zoe and Khaos are best friends. It’s amazing to see them grow up together.
